It’s easy to wonder why anyone would want to open themselves up to voice comms with randoms in League of Legends, but evidently that is going to be a thing in the MOBA in the very near future, according to the latest dev update video.
The upcoming proliferation of in-game voice chat will allow all members in a team to open up their mouths and ears instead of making the feature available to premade teams. Additional features like better noise cancellation, faster connection, more stability, and optional “voice skins” that let users modify their voice while still ensuring clarity are also promised.
And on the topic of opening a possible new faucet of gamer™ bile, Riot Games promises to take “appropriate” moderation measures and further tie the feature to the existing honor system, with further tweaks to honor in order to ensure it better reflects in-game behavior Players can expect a gradual rollout of VoIP functionality, starting first with NA and Oceania with patch 26.20, then expand the option to other servers once the team has had time to monitor how it’s going, both in terms of performance and moderation load.
Another major topic of discussion is a variety of changes to classic mode: Lighting has been updated to better capture the original MOBA’s feel, IP and XP rates have been improved, matchmaking problems are continuing to be addressed, more rune pages and win of the day bonuses are being added, and rune costs are being lowered. Players can also expect several Demacian champions in classic mode’s next patch, while Graves and three other Bilgewater champs will arrive in the patch after that.
The video also talked about future plans that include Season 3 Act 2’s focus on music as its theme, details about its next ARAM: Mayhem, and a new run of ranked 5s along with other adjustments to the mode. You can watch the full video below or read the official synopsis if you don’t have six minutes to watch the devs talk.
