Shack Chat: How do you plan to play GTA 6?

What the report says

FeatureThe Shacknews staff weights in on how they plan to play Grand Theft Auto 6. Shack Staff September 5, 2026 8:00 AM 1 This week Shack Chat is heading back to the Grand Theft Auto 6 Extended Look with a focus on play styles. We all come at GTA games from a different angle. Some folks are story driven while others just want to create havoc in the open world. One thing that has made the franchise unique historically is that every style is viable. As we gear up for GTA 6, we want to know what style you want to take into Vice City.

Are you focused on getting Jason and Lucia ripped above all else? Do you want to become the most notorious agent of chaos in franchise history? What are your plans when you finally get to play as Jason and Lucia this November?

Question: How do you plan to play GTA 6?
Without wasting another second, let's dive into our answers.

A leisurely couple - TJ Denzer, Will go bowling with Nico

I wrote a feature about this, but I’m pretty amused by the prospect of side activities I saw in Grand Theft Auto 6.

In the Netflix Grand Theft Auto 6 Deep Dive, we clocked basketball, street racing, rally racing, scuba diving, base-jumping, kayaking, speedboating, jetskiing, backyard wrestling, and gym activities, just to name a few. In particular, I liked the look of the aquatic activities in this game, but if we have a fleshed out backyard wrestling side plot, I’m going all out on it.
I know this game has a story and a ton of intrigue as its characters engage in heists and the criminal underworld, but the more I look at that Deep Dive, the more I realize how much time my Lucia and Jason are going to be living their best lives and exploring different hobbies and recreation along the way.

Key details

And you know what? Good for them. It’s important to try new things.

LEEROY JENKINS!!! - Asif Khan, Purchased GTA V five times

Grand Theft Auto games will always be an anarchy simulator to me, so I intend to play GTA 6 with absolutely no Fs to give. Much like the great Leeroy Jenkins before me, I will play the game however I feel like it. I also intend to get super fat as Jason and maintain Lucia’s baddie self to create the narrative of the fat dude pulling a super hot bad ass lady.

Truly the final boss of video games right there. See you at Cluckin’ Bell!

Joker - David L. Craddock, lets chaos reign

Some men just want to watch the world burn. I happen to be one of those men. As much as I appreciate the narratives in GTA games, and as much as I want to see my player-characters end up okay at the end of their tales, I’m much more interested in wreaking havoc in whatever city I happen to be in. I’m talking six-star wanted levels, chain reactions of explosions in highway pileups, shooting pedestrians who look at me funny—anything I can do to raise hell, I will do.
That’s what I would say, anyway.

With GTA 6, I’m thinking of taking a different, more thoughtful approach. Just a little. Jason and Lucia interest me. I’m curious about their relationship and how I can evolve it, or erode it, over the course of the game. I’m curious about how Vice City will view each of them—if, say, I play them at opposite ends of the spectrum, what will their associates think of them individually and together? What will they think of one another?
If I happen to toss a few grenades over my shoulder without looking along the way, so be it.

Lucia and Jason against the world - Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord

There’s a good chance that I end up playing through Grand Theft Auto 6 many times.

More from the announcement

If that’s the case, there will be loads of opportunities for me to experiment with different options. Out of the gate, I’m going to focus on the relationship between Lucia and Jason. I plan to play as if they are the only two people in the world that matter. Every move I make with Jason will prioritize Lucia, and every move with Lucia will be in the best interest of Jason. Whatever happens to the people of Vice City beyond that is irrelevant.
