Pointy Hat's Wild Hearth Kickstarter Campaign Serves Up Sumptuous Crowdfunding

The Kickstarter campaign for Wild Hearth has gone live. This Dungeons & Dragons supplement, created by TTRPG personality Pointy Hat, introduces new gameplay mechanics including cooking and eating monsters alongside town-building. It reached its funding goal shortly after going live.

The Wild Hearth Kickstarter Campaign

According to the campaign, Wild Hearth is a massive two-tome expansion for the latest edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Both books, titled Recipe for Heroes and Blueprint for Adventure, contain expansive new player options and DM tools for a world that revolves around cooking monsters, farming, travel, town-building, and competitive cooking contests. The campaign explicitly cites The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Delicious in Dungeon as key inspirations.

These aren't just minor adjustments to D&D's rules. Town building involves discovering unique NPCs, building special buildings that unlock unique services, and a special suite of downtime activities. The game even includes pieces of screen-printed wood, allowing you to physically build out the town your party creates on a physical map.

Farming isn't a static activity. Tend to your garden enough and you can provide extra benefits to meals you cook through spices or complimentary crops. You can even cultivate crops that will fight alongside you. In addition, meals you make from monster parts can provide magical benefits to your party depending on how they are cooked and prepared.

Notably, if you enjoy the monster cooking mechanics from Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting by Loot Tavern, those rules are compatible with Wild Hearth. This is thanks in part by Loot Tavern working in collaboration with Pointy Hat with this project.

In addition, Wild Hearth contains new player options. This includes a new Necromancer character class, complete with three subclasses: the Overlord, Medium, and Hemomancer. There are also 15 subclasses for the core classes such as the Fey Origin Sorcerer, Fortune Domain Cleric, Butcher Barbarian, and College of Hospitality Bard.

The pledge levels for Wild Hearth are as follows:

• PDFs for $60: Digital copies of both Recipe for Heroes and Blueprint for Adventure
• Dual Book for $99: Physical and digital copies of both books
• Game Ready for $159: Physical and digital copies of both books, handouts, GM cheat sheets, and PDF map pack
• Digital Deluxe for $199: PDFs of both books, digital handouts, cheat sheets, digital cards for monster meals, magic utensils, spell cards, digital GM screen, digital papercraft files for Heroes' Hamlet, Steampunk Suburbs, and Edo Edifices, PDF for Cakewalk location, and VTT support
• Core Bundle for $299: Physical and digital copies of both books, handouts, cheat sheets, monster meal, magic utensil and spell cards, two papercraft town packs, Cakewalk location, a set of custom dice, a digital GM Screen, and an accessory case
• Deluxe Bundle for $495: Everything in the Core Bundle tier, Deluxe Hardover editions of both books, a matched set of custom dice and chopsticks, a physical GM Screen, and a physical hardcover Art of Wild Hearth book

At the time of writing, the campaign for Wild Hearth has raised $707,188, more than fourteen times its initial funding goal. The campaign concludes on October 19.
