The Kingdom of Buganda lies on the shores of Lake Victoria and boasts a vast army—though one lacking heavy armor and almost entirely devoid of muskets.
In 1780, this would usually spell the end for any playable faction. But Buganda simply said: "No! We have canoes!"
Buganda starts in a small region of Central Africa, overlooking Lake Victoria and difficult to access by land. You would have to brave the vast forests of the Congo, or else build ships on Lake Victoria itself to reach them.
Despite this isolation, Buganda is no Wakanda; its technology is extremely limited. Yet, the Kingdom of Buganda is historically renowned for one thing: its royal navy and the hordes of soldiers who launched amphibious assaults from lakes and rivers. Canoes were carried by hand for miles on end, allowing the army to consistently launch attacks from the water.
That is why, in 1780 Total War, you will find canoes on the battlefield. Buganda’s sailors carry them right into the fray, positioning them as cover against enemy fire or as obstacles to halt enemy attacks and charges.
